Samsung will launch the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ in India on March 6, sources have confirmed to India Today Tech. Although that will be the launch day, both the phones are likely to go on sale in India around March 16, which also happens to be the date for global availability of the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+.
Update: Airtel has said that it will also sell the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ through its websites and Airtel stores. To buy the two new Samsung phones you can at the Airtel store now, and the registration window is open until March 4. After the phone is launched on March 6, you will be invited by Airtel to purchase the device. It will then be delivered to you on March 16 when the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ become available globally.
It is important to note that the pre-order for the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ are already open in India from the night of January 25 when Samsung showcased the phones at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The phones can be booked on Samsung India website with payment of Rs 2000. Although the India prices of the Galaxy S9 and the S9+ aren't revealed officially yet, the Rs 2000 advance will be adjusted in the final payment that you make when you buy the phones on March 16.
will be the fastest that Samsung will be launching a high-end Galaxy S phone in India since the company just launched the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ ahead of MWC 2018 in Barcelona, clearly suggesting the criticality of India as a key market for the company.
The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will cost you slightly more than what last year's Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ did in India. More precisely, both the phones are heading to cross the Rs 60,000 price barrier, in terms of both the Market Operating Price (MOP) as well as the Maximum Retail Price. Which means, you will have to pay at least a minimum of Rs 60,000 to get a hold of one of Samsung's new flagship high-end phones. The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, to recall, were launched in India at Rs 57,900 and Rs 64,900 respectively.
Anonymous dealer sources have confirmed to India Today Tech that, while the Galaxy S9 will start at Rs 62,500 for the base 64GB storage version going all the way to Rs 71,000 for the top-end 256GB storage version, the Galaxy S9+ will cost buyers in India Rs 70,000 and Rs 79,000 respectively. These are MRPs, but MOPs of both the phones should be very close. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are already available for pre-booking via Samsung's online retail store, although it makes no mention of price specifics.
Flipkart has been teasing the phones on its platform for a while now, although Samsung has so far refrained from launching its flagship Galaxy S phones via exclusive channels which means ideally both the phones should be made available via other online channels as well. Not to mention, via offline retail stores across the country. Both the phones are currently available for pre-booking in India via the Samsung's online store.
The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will be globally available for buying from March 16 in as many as four different colours: Midnight Black, Lilac Purple, Coral Blue and Titanium Gray. In the US, where these phones will go on pre-order from March 2, while the Galaxy S9 will cost $720 (roughly Rs 46,573) the Galaxy S9+ will start at $840 (roughly Rs 54,327). Samsung isn't launching the 128GB storage version in India for now. Also, the 256GB version of the both the phones will only come in Midnight Black for now.
Samsung launched its high-end flagship Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ phones on February 25. The Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ were announced at Samsung's high-profile Unpacked event a day ahead of MWC 2018, in Barcelona, Spain.
