‘The Vanguard Experiment’ by students Priyadarshi Gangopadhyay and Purvashri Vora of Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad secured the first prize for the much acclaimed ‘V-Guard Big Idea Business Plan Contest 2018.’ The winners secured a prize money of Rs.2 lakhs from the founder and chairman of V-Guard group Kochouseph Chittilappilly at a function held at Kochi. ‘Lightning Boltz’ by students of Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar become the 1st runner-up securing Rs.1 lakh prize money. NMIMS MPSTME (Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering - Mumbai) secured the title of 2nd runner-up receiving a prize money of Rs.50,000/-. The winners were selected by a jury of 4 eminent professionals including Rajesh Nair (Director & Head Markets- E&Y), Ramachandran V (Director & COO, V-Guard Industries Ltd), Sudarshan Kasturi (Sr. VP & CFO, V-Guard Industries Ltd) and Mohammed Tanveer (Sr. GM- NPD, V-Guard Industries Ltd) from the final presentation held on 14-15 September 2018. The ideas put forth judged on parameters such as ingenuity, practicality of application, feasibility, simplicity and the positive impact it can have on V-Guard’s business, its consumers and the world in general.
Apart from the first three winners, two teams received special jury award of Rs.25,000/- each along with trophies and certificates of appreciation. Indian Institute of Management, Jammu and Indian Institute of Management, Raipur shared the Special Jury awards. This was the 8th season of the annual V-Guard Big Idea Contest started in 2011. ‘Bring home a better tomorrow’ was the theme given in the Big Idea Contest which reflects the transformation of V-Guard. Participants got a chance to breathe life into the theme with real business plans and the real ideas. This year’s contest turned out to be bigger than previous years with a whopping surge in entries to 648 teams from amongst the finest and biggest management and engineering institutions in India. And after a rigorous selection process 20 teams have been shortlisted for the recommendation of a creative and comprehensive business plan for the growht of V-Guard Industries. Contestants were asked to give an idea which could to do with a completely new product idea, an insightful but simple product innovation that has the potential to impact our consumer’s lives substantially, an idea that can change the cost structures positively or a delighful new way to deliver the product experience itself. Since its inception in 1977, V-Guard has always believed in creating and delivering quality products with its consumers at the core. Innovation being the driving force in anything and everything the brand sets out to do. The ‘V-Guard Big Idea Contest’ was conceptualised with this very objective in mind. As an opportunity to foster a spirit of innovation in young minds.
